Home to Lose

To have nothing to lose, but a country to gain,
Not losing a roof or a bowl,
But gaining an arm or a shoulder,

Strangers become friends,
Friends becomes brothers,
Brothers cry, because they are home,

Oh if we could share a war!
This blood is easier together spilled than shared!
In my rage I tell will tell you how much I love you....

Don't be afraid,
You will find that you have gained,
What you are is what you give you your children's children,
What you are is whether you love what you tolerate,
What you are is the air you share, the hands your hand's hands hold,

This new race is better than the old,
You who have not felt the cold of un-belonging,
You who have not felt the shame of not-belonging,
You who refuses to feel the self-justification that hides disowning your brother,

I speak this to the earth that first held me,
And still holds me...
This,
Night seems like mine because of where I withhold her,
Bed feels warm because of where I sleep,
Word hurts me, because I cannot ignore it.

I have nothing to lose, but a nation to gain,
Not losing name or shame,
But gaining a reason to love them.
